The history of Christmas begins with the celebration of the winter solstice. This day falls on or around 21st December and is the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. A yule log was burned to mark this occasion and people gathered to sing carols and exchange gifts under a sprig of holly. The  Christmas is a holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Most historians believe that Jesus was not born on 25th December, but it wasn’t until centuries later when Pope Julius 1st declared the birth date of Jesus to be on.
